What Is Chiropractic?

In 1895, magnetic healer D.D. Palmer tried to fix a "bump" on the back of janitor Harvey Lillard. The first "adjustment" actually restored Mr. Liilard's HEARING and chiropractic was born! D.D. Palmer and his son, B.J. Palmer, developed the philosophy, science and art that has made Chiropractic the leader in natural healthcare today. Millions of people have now improved their quality of life and achieved a higher level of health through chiropractic. The term Chiropractic literally means "to practice with hands" which is how most chiropractors still practice today. To understand how chiropractic works, first it helps to have a brief anatomy lesson.

How does the body work?

The BRAIN is the main control of all the systems of our bodies. It has direct connection to all muscles, organs, glands and pain sensors. The NERVOUS SYSTEM includes the brain, the spinal cord and all the nerves that branch off. The brain sends its signals down the spinal cord and out the nerves which branch like roots of a tree. In order for the body to function at 100%, it must have perfect flow from the brain to the body. In fact, the definition of HEALTH is a state of optimal physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease. You need ALL parts functioning at 100% to be 100% healthy!

Why is my BACK important?

The spine, or vertebral column, consists of 24 movable vertebrae which sit on the tailbone and pelvis. These bones PROTECT AND SUPPORT the nerve system. So if you do not take care of your spine, it cannot protect your nerves! In fact, it can actually put PRESSURE ON THE NERVOUS SYSTEM. Pressure on the nerve system prevents that perfect flow of information between the brain and body. This interruption in information will cause poor function and eventually disease.
